OpenAI CEO Sam Altman predicts that in the next 10 years, college graduates may take on exciting, high-paying jobs in space. Here’s what he said and why it matters.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who brought a big change in the world of artificial intelligence (AI), says that the coming 10 years can prove to be historic for the career of youth. He claims that by 2035, college graduates will be doing such work, which will not only be very new and exciting, but their salary will also be skyrocketing.
According to Altman, if someone is graduating from college today, then he is probably looking at the luckiest time in history. He believes that in the coming times, early career jobs will be so different that today’s jobs will seem “boring”.
The future of space jobs
In 2035, Altman told video journalist Cleo Abram, a graduate will probably be embarking on a space mission – where he or she will not only earn good money, but the work will be extremely interesting. Although it’s uncertain how fast space exploration will progress, NASA aims to reach Mars sometime in the 2030s.
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics says aerospace engineering jobs are growing faster than the average for all occupations, with average yearly salaries topping $130,000.
AI and workplace transformation
Other tech leaders are also looking at the impact of AI from a different perspective. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates believes AI could shorten the workweek – perhaps just 2 or 3 days. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says AI has already given employees “superhuman” capabilities, and this will continue to grow.
Altman admits the future of AI is not entirely clear, but he is extremely excited for Gen Z. He says, “If I were 22 years old today, I would consider myself the luckiest person in history.”
New business era
Sam Altman said we now have technology that can match the skills of a “team of PhD-level experts” right in our pocket. He believes that today even a single person can start a business that previously needed hundreds of people to run – and that too can create billions of dollars of value.
In the words of Altman, “Now even one person can create a product or service that will make a big change in the world.”
Possibility of becoming a trillionaire from AI
Businessman Mark Cuban believes that AI will not only create new billionaires, but it is possible that a single person can also become a trillionaire. He said, “We haven’t even seen the craziest form of AI’s true potential yet.”
The combined possibilities of space exploration and AI could usher in a new chapter for jobs in the coming decade – where technology and human curiosity come together to make history.
